What Is An SIA Approved Contractor?
An SIA Approved Contractor is a member of SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS), a voluntary initiative designed to improve the quality of professional security across the sector. It’s fully regulated by the UK’s Security Industry Authority (SIA), in line with the Private Security Act 2001 – the defining legislation of our industry and important for creating safer, trusted services.
As part of the initiative, companies are audited against 78 unique criteria to determine how resilient they are as a security provider, how much reassurance that offers clients, and what it looks like in practice for their customers. That includes areas including operational delivery and service quality, as well as less-obvious metrics like financial capacity and legislative compliance. They’re then given a score out of a possible 145.
What Is The ACS Pacesetter Status?
An ACS Pacesetter status is awarded to the Top 15% of all companies that are part of the ACS. It’s a specialised award reserved for those who achieve a score that places them in the 15% of all companies under the SIA’s ACS scheme (as of July 2026, that’s approximately 700 companies).
ProFM Group have, since the ACS’s auditing and scoring began in 2017, consistently been in the Top 15%. That became the top 1% in 2019, and we’ve remained there since, with the last 6 years seeing us score the highest of all accredited companies. It’s proof of our commitment to delivering the very best and to providing a service that our clients can trust with their safety.
You can see our listing on the SIA’s ACS register here, or view our certificate on our accreditations page.
What Does SIA Approved Contractor Status Mean For You?
For clients, choosing an Approved Contractor means you’re partnering with a security provider that’s been independently audited across more than 75 different criteria. That includes a firmer guarantee of coverage and operational support, as well as the right processes in place to provide you with reports and documented evidence, all grounded in the SIA’s established processes and the Private Security Act 2001.
It’s also proof that your chosen security provider is constantly striving to improve. An ACS audit is conducted yearly, meaning that one score doesn’t set them up for the future – it needs to be consistently maintained. Plus, with all ACS-approved companies listed on the SIA’s official register, there’s a guaranteed paper trail.
Why SIA Approved Contractor Status Matters When Choosing Your Provider
Opting for an unapproved contractor places you at an unnecessary disadvantage. You miss out on the reassurance of documented and externally audited processes, as well as the increased support around both compliance and insurance requirements. It’s an avoidable exposure, but it’s a pitfall that so many fall into, given that only 5% of the UK’s security companies are ACS-approved.
ProFM Group aren’t just part of that 5% – we lead it. We’ve been ranked as the top-scoring ACS-approved contractor for 6 years running and have been part of the Pacesetters scheme since its launch. We’re proud to have that status, and our team works to maintain it year on year.
