Still Have a Question?A waking watch involves trained fire safety professionals (usually called fire wardens or safety officers) conducting patrols of a building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are trained to spot the early signs of fire, raise the alarm to all residents, and coordinate and carry out evacuations when needed.
A common reason for a premises needing a fire watch is because of improper or dangerous cladding, and it is often a recommendation from a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) conducted by a relevant fire safety service. It may also be recommended for buildings where a fire alarm is broken or out of service, or has been damaged by flooding or electrical faults.
The maximum length of time you should have a fire watch for is 6 months, according to the NFCC’s Simultaneous Evacuation Guidance (SEG). It is intended as a temporary measure before a more permanent solution (such as a fire alarm or remediation works) is completed.
All of the services we provide are conducted in line with the latest guidance from the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), their 4th Edition of the Simultaneous Evacuation Guidance (SEG), and the UK Government’s Fire Safety England (FSE) Regulations 2022.
