Domestic access controls are often self-contained, and generally won’t connect to other doors or access points on the same network – think a PIN code for your intruder alarm system, or a panic room with biometric scanning.
Commercial access controls are much more robust, often connecting multiple points of access to a central, cloud-based system. They’ll also have additional security measures in place, such as security officers or CCTV cameras, to support in ensuring that access is properly.
Access controls that use facial recognition have two settings: capture and recognition. In set-up mode, they’ll capture an image (through the device’s camera) and store that image on a cloud-based database. In recognition mode, the camera will scan the user’s face and search for a match in that database, before unlocking for an authorised user.
